I am following the prescription
The European airspace is certainly crowded. And this is the route map of just British Airways!
AS ANY STOCK MARKET watcher will verify, “sell in May and go away” is a truism.
In fact a Wall Street journal article of May 16, used the very terminology in a headline to a story.
Reporter Steven Russolillo, however, was not referring to the stock market – but the bond market.
“The ‘Sell in May and go away’ trade is alive, just not in the form people anticipated,” Russolillo wrote in “ Sell in May and Go Away’ Is Working, Seriously”
“The stock market is still kicking, but the bond market is showing serious signs of fatigue. … May’s selloff has wiped out year-to-date gains for holders of U.S. Treasurys, German bunds and U.K. gilts.”
Be that as it may, it is not exactly what this post is all about.
In a manner of speaking, I am following the prescription.
I’m going away.
THIS EVENING, I am flying out of LAX for LHR. Thanks to Mileage Plus, I will be in the comfort of business class for the 10-hour leg of my journey, which ultimately brings me to Sweden on Sunday.
For me, this is both a hugely sentimental journey and a business trip.
For the first time in the almost 30 years that I have known him, I will be visiting the home town of my soul mate, Bjorn Palenius. He left San Diego for Falun 10 days ago.
Every spring in the many years that I have known him, Bjorn regularly visits his mother – and the rest of his siblings who live in and around Stockholm.
I have never had the opportunity to join them. This year I do, and I am.
On the way back, I will be visiting web developer extraordinaire Martin Black in Cambridge, U.K. Martin has so brilliantly assisted me in building this blog in record time, the very least I can do is buy him lunch at his favorite pub in a world renowned town that I have never visited before.
To say I’m excited is a bit of an understatement.
HOWEVER, this blog will not be on hiatus during my travels. First, I am taking the laptop with me. Being the news junkie that I am, there is no way I could remain out of touch.
So I will be blogging if necessary while on the road.
But in addition, a series of a dozen feature stories is scheduled to appear – at least one per day – during my absence.
I hope you will enjoy these, and perhaps, my posts from Europe.
THE UAL CLUB LOUNGE at LAX is quite adequate. But if I was paying full price for the ticket, I ask you: Do you think it would be worth it?
My answer is below the image.

A definite, NO!
