Rachel Maddow on Thursday focused on the popularity of raising the minimum wage.

WHILE MOST WERE preoccupied this week with reports about the national US economy, a less well-known groundswell of support is building across the land for a big increase in the minimum wage.
As has been the case on other issues, the push is coming from the bottom up. The federal minimum wage hasn’t been raised since 2009, and its purchasing power is now the same as it was in 1960.
But states and even cities are moving far more aggressively past it. One city in the state of Washington looks as if it may set a record with a $15 per hour minimum wage if the preliminary results of Tuesday’s election continue to hold as ballots are counted.

The long national nightmare over the government shutdown brought on by House Republicans is nearing an end
No wonder the GOP is caving under the pressure.
It is coming from its own base, the very constituency it thought it was serving by bringing the United States government to its knees – and threatening a global economic calamity.
What a gigantic miscalculation.

SPY VS SPY: Snowden saga shows limits of US power

SEARCH FOR WHISTLEBLOWER A WASTE OF TAPXPAYER MONEY
Surely there are other things the president should be focusing on than the dramatic disappearance and supposed transcontinental journey of fugitive Edward Snowden, charged with espionage by the Obama Administrtation.
The media circus that accompanied Snowden’s supposed global travels made for riveting drama, and lead the news cycle on Monday.
The fruitless battle to keep government secrets secret may provide dramatic television but it is a waste of taxpayers money – and won’t be worth a dime anyway.
